Sexual Revolution in China (NSFW)

There is a sexual revolution in China; at least with photographer and poet, Ren Hang who is based in Bejing.  Born in 1987, Ren Hang takes photos exploring sexuality of Chinese youth, which in his country is normally censored.  This censorship is what pushes him to take risk.  His photos are very in your face and is drawing him a lot of attention.  We wonder if he would be shooting with such vigor if he lived in a country with more sexual freedom.  “I love my country and being criticized makes me want to live here all the more.”  He advocates the freedom to create and to live one’s sexual life to the fullest.  So he displays his friends in a very raw yet surreal and explicit way.  Ren Hang’s deliberately provocative work goes all against his highly conservative and conventionally moral society.  Despite the controversy, his work is still being exhibited in China but not without drama.  His exhibits have been closed or censored in some occasions and his prints have been confiscated by authorities.  He has been arrested in China for the obscenity of his artwork.  Yet despite this, his work is still being recognized globally.
